If you can’t see the irony, you need better glasses. Much like the word terrorist, paedophile (thanks Grant, for turning me in hahaha…..bastard) pedophile has the same reactionary response. So does the phrase child porn. It’s really amazing what little things will set people off into having completely idiotic opinions about something. I read manga. I read a lot of it actually, and although I don’t make a habit of reading things that involve too much tentacle sex someone was arrested for collecting lolicon. Seriously? Seriously. He was also charged, and struck a plea bargain. Seriously.

America is scary in the way it works sometimes. If you believed even half of the things the politicians are saying about protecting your children from predators along with the sensationalism that the media drums up with their paedophile busts you’d never let your kids out of the house or online. Now, it seems that it’s okay to dictate what is obscene for the populace. I don’t think that’s normal. It sounds a little Orwellian to me. I feel cheap using the word, but since I think this is only the second or third time I’ve used it…you’re gonna have to deal. Have a look-see at this article and tell me that’s normal, it reminds me of the big deal with porn way back when. Interestingly, it seems that now manga (or comic books in general) aren’t “real” works of art and have no value other than to demean a target audience? How does that work exactly?

I just want to talk. I don’t want to debate anything. Well, I wouldn’t mind debating something. At least then I wouldn’t feel intellectually devoid of stimulation; however, I’d like to just talk. It doesn’t matter what it is really, but I guess since researchers figured out that men talk just as much as women I felt like I could open my mouth finally.

Okay, the above is a partial lie. The research didn’t really spawn this, but I did watch a movie that had on the back cover some semi-stick figure drawings. They were actually popsicle stick like drawings, stick figure in nature but with rounded bodies and limbs rather than a single line you dig? Very elongated ellipses. The name of the movie isn’t important, but it made me want to talk. Maybe I’m depressed? I couldn’t say. I’m not going to go off myself; however, I did imagine hanging myself and figured that it would be best not to do that. It’s very traumatic to the people that find you. Oddly, women are more concerned with the way they are found. Did you know that? Researchers found that women were more likely to find a way to commit suicide so that they would still be able to have an open casket funeral as opposed to men. Maybe I have a girl screaming inside of me to get out and I need to off myself to let her free. That would make a good storyline. Well, not really but I’d watch an anime about it!

Oh, the figures on the back of the movie cover were one of a figure alone, another figure hanging by a noose and the third figure sitting on the couch with a female figure laying its head on the male figure’s lap. I liked it.

robots in disguise. I don’t mean to give away the plot and shit,
but…did you know that Transformers has…ROBOTS?! And they are IN DISGUISE!

I mean…seriously! Robots, robots that are in disguise. Holy fucking hell!

And it’s the most awesome movie I have ever laid my precious eyes upon. It was good. It was the salvation of my trust in American movies. Well, not really but it was the most awesome American movie I’ve ever seen. It was arguably better than ‘The Matrix’.

I’m not usually one for hype, but I went to see the movie because I just couldn’t resist. This was a live action of my favorite cartoon. I didn’t really like the Spider-Man cartoon, but I’d read some of the comics and I figured ‘what the hell’. I saw Spider-Man the movie and it wasn’t bad. It was actually really good, then the second came out and it wasn’t bad. The third one, I have to ask why? The third was just a retelling of the same stuff, no real new interpersonal action no new developments. Just, ‘hey we can throw Venom in here and profit!’ because you know everyone really did want to see Venom as the next villian. I know I did. Any how, Transformers was of course being looked upon by my self as possibly a broken movie. I went to the theatre.

When the lights dimmed and I heard Optimus Prime’s voice over, I felt the butterflies in my stomach start flipping around. The excitement of seeing ‘in real life’ characters that I loved, especially Optimus Prime and his pursuit of justice for all living beings a defining figure in my life. Several minutes into the movie and it struck me when the first transformation too place. Holy shit! Transformers was fucking awesome. They even had the sound. Everyone that ever saw the cartoon knows the sound I’m talking about. Yes, they had the sound and it was good. The movie was not just an action movie either, it was comical and not in a bad way. There was good plot, the major players of the Transformers were present. It was a good movie all the way around. There were a couple of questions left for me when I got out of the theatre, but they more of curiosity than movie spoiling.

Truthfully, it has restored to some degree my desire to see other American movies. If only they would take some of the better anime out there and convert them to live action. That would be really beautiful in my opinion. But that’s just me. Ghost in the Shell live action would be easy to pull off given Terminator and Matrix and Predator technologies. Also, Macross Plus shouldn’t be too terribly difficult after seeing Transformers. A live action Rurouni Kenshin would be good as well, and that’s not even high tech. We’d just need good actors and actresses.

Later days!
